Sam Lousi punches: The moments of violent madness that just saw Scarlets star sent off

Scarlets second row Sam Lousi has been sent off for punching two Munster players during moments of madness in this evening’s Guinness PRO14 clash out in Limerick.

The Tongan international connected first with the head of fly-half JJ Hanrahan with a left-hander and then the face of lock Fineen Wycherley with a right-hander.

This followed a spot of push and shove after Munster had been pressing hard on the Scarlets line at a windy Thomond Park.

Lousi was at the centre of that fracas, which was initially just handbags.

But then as he split away with a couple of opposition players, he for some reason lost the plot, aiming his two punches.

There was only going to be one decision and off he went, with Scottish referee Mike Adamson brandishing the red card after checking with his TMO.

Adamson decided there were no mitigating factors and that no action was necessary against any other player. You can see how the match unfolded here.

The New Zealand-born Lousi played in all four of Tonga’s games at the World Cup, taking his cap tally to eight.

He linked up with the Scarlets after that tournament in Japan, having signed from Super Rugby the Hurricanes.

This punch earned a rugby player an 11-week ban

Munster claimed a try immediately after Lousi was sent off and went on to claim a 29-10 bonus point victory, with the visitors down to 13 men during the final ten minutes after the sin-binning of replacement lock Tevita Ratuva for a tip tackle.
