Sam Kerr fires slick hat-trick past West Ham as Chelsea keep up WSL pressure on Man United

Sam Kerr scored a hat-trick as Chelsea beat West Ham 3-2 to keep up the pressure on Manchester United at the top of the Women's Super League.

The reigning WSL champions have now won their last 12 home matches on the bounce - a new record.

"It’s not easy to have our home record," manager Emma Hayes said. "You have to be at the top of your game. There’s a lot to celebrate today."

Australian international Kerr grabbed all three of her goals from inside the six-yard box - and picked up an injury forcing her off the pitch as she celebrated her third.

Her first-half strike came after a fine cross from Lioness Fran Kirby on 15 minutes, and it took them into the break with the advantage.

But another England star, Rachel Daly, brought the Hammers level just after the restart, latching on to a through-ball form Adriana Leon.

Kerr put Chelsea back in front ten minutes later, picking up on a rebound from Pernille Harder. And it was Kirby who set up Kerr’s hat-trick on 68 minutes too as the Aussie tapped home.

A Magda Eriksson own goal two minutes from time made for a fascinating last few moments, but Emma Hayes's side clung on.

West Ham's caretaker coach Billy Stewart was philosophical afterwards, saying: "I thought we were in the game right until the last second. To still be in with a chance to get something out of Chelsea is massive."
