Sam Kerr has led Chelsea to women's FA Cup glory, scoring a brace in a 3-0 rout of Arsenal in the tournament final at Wembley in front of 40,942 fans to claim a domestic 2020-21 treble, after the final was put back from May due to COVID-19.
The Matildas star struck twice in the second half to put the victory beyond doubt after strike partner Fran Kirby opened the scoring for Chelsea in the third minute.
Kirby's strike was typically clinical but it was Kerr who would be the star for Chelsea and was named player of the match.
Her first goal came in the 57th minute when she used her pace to stream onto a long ball and get past Arsenal defender Lotte Wubben-Moy before beating goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger at her near post.
Then 21 minutes later Kerr turned on the party tricks with a sublime chipped finish over Zinsberger to seal the result.
The goal was made all the more difficult by the pace she was moving at to execute the deft chip.
Still it mattered not for the Australian as the finish drew superlatives from commentators, Chelsea themselves describing the strike as "pure class".
While Chelsea had more chances it was Arsenal who had the bulk of the possession throughout the match with 63 per cent of the ball but that mattered little in the end.
They may have had more of the ball but Chelsea's defence was resolute and in the entire 90 minutes Arsenal could not manage to get a single shot on target to trouble Chelsea keeper Ann-Katrin Berger on what was a tough night for Kerr's Matildas teammates Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord, who were on the opposing side.
Kerr was typically ebullient after the victory and praised her teammates.
"I think we deserved it," Kerr told the BBC after the victory.
"I think we played really well, as we have done in the past few weeks. We kind of went in as underdogs so we had a point to prove and we are buzzing.
With a Champions League date against Juventus this Wednesday the celebrations may have to wait but Kerr has once again proved her worth for the team on the biggest stage as Chelsea claimed their third title in the competition that began in 1970.
