Sam Kerr and her partner, Kristie Mewis, have announced the birth of their first child.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, the Matildas captain wrote: “Our little man is here, Jagger Mewis-Kerr.”
The post attracted thousands of comments, including from fellow footballers Mary Fowler, Caitlin Foord and Katie McCabe, and from the Matildas and Fifa Women’s World Cup account.
The couple announced in November last year they were expecting a baby, sharing a collage of black-and-white photos. In one they hold up an image of the ultrasound scan and, in another, Kerr points to Mewis’s stomach.
Kerr, 31, and Mewis, 34, have been together since 2021 and got engaged in 2023. Mewis confirmed they were engaged after several weeks of speculation, fuelled in part by social posts featuring the US midfielder wearing a diamond ring on her engagement finger.
At the time, Mewis said that along with her parents and sister, Kerr had “just been everything” to her. “My biggest supporter, always listening to me nag and complain, all of my crazy antics,” she said.
The pair have spoken about the importance of sharing their relationship on social media to normalise “being two girls in love”.
