Sam Hubbard sees Ohio State culture in Zac Taylor-led Bengals

The state of Ohio has seen quite the drama at the professional level this offseason.

The Browns have made moves to become the AFC North’s favorite, while the Cincinnati Bengals have almost completely overhauled their coaching staff, adding Zac Taylor, the LA Rams former quarterback coach.

With any head coaching change, building a winning culture is of paramount importance.

After three straight losing seasons in Cincinnati, former Buckeye and Bengal defensive end Sam Hubbard sees the similarity of the new culture in the Queen City and his former Urban Meyer-led culture in Columbus.

“I’ve got about a month or so under my belt working with them, and it’s pretty similar to what I was used to at Ohio State,” Hubbard told Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors. “The energy they’ve brought in and the new attitude, the winning culture they’re trying to create, I love every minute of it.”

Hubbard, a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, thought his rookie season went “really well” under Marvin Lewis. Recording six sacks and a game-changing touchdown, Hubbard started the majority of the games for Cincinnati after injuries to the team’s defensive line.

Now a trusted starter, Hubbard is hoping to get back to winning, something he was familiar with during his three seasons at Ohio State. Hubbard’s teams went 35-5 in his 40 appearances.

That said, let’s hope the Bengals can get to winning and give Hubbard the success he found in Ohio State at the professional level.
