Sam Hubbard’s breakout has him next to some major names so far

The Cincinnati Bengals have a breakout player on their hands in the form of defensive end Sam Hubbard.

Hubbard, the third-round pick out of Ohio State last year, has morphed into a starter for the defense and is getting versatile looks in various fronts under the supervision of a new coaching staff.

He’s breaking out doing it, too.

Sheil Kapadia of The Athletic in the above tweet noted Hubbard joins names like Myles Garrett and Cam Wake, among others, as players who most often convert pass-rush snaps into a sack or hit.

Maybe this isn’t too shocking. After all, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said after Week 1 that Hubbard’s breakout was one of the least surprising things he’d ever seen.

Still, it is at least a little shocking to outsiders who have now finally seen for themselves how this new staff plans to use Hubbard and how he’s responded to the array of different uses in a multiple-front defense.

With the breakout official, now the question is simple — how high is Hubbard’s ceiling?
