Sam Heughan has spoken about his favourite bar in Scotland and recalls first 'awful' taste of whisky, as he revealed his Men In Kilts co-star can't hold his drink.
The Scots Outlander actor will soon release some more of his own whisky, The Sassenach this August, after its recent multiple double gold medal win at the San Francisco Spirit awards and International Spirits Challenge awards.
He was chatting to Square Mile about his love for whisky and the first time he tried it at a party - where he had a bad experience of the dram.
He explained: "I had tried several times to enjoy whisky but never knew where to start.
Probably my first taste put me off, some awful blend in a quarter bottle, hidden in my pocket at a party. I guess it did the trick though?"
It wasn't until Sam lived in London and was homesick that he ordered a single malt and reminisced about his homeland.
He recalled: 'It brought back so many memories of Scotland, I had a real emotional reaction to this drink. We reminisced about memories in Edinburgh and climbing mountains in the Highlands."
"I realised that every time I took a dram, it could transport me home. Hence the reason we created The Sassenach ‘Spirit of Home Edition’."
Sam revealed he drinks whisky with everything from Curry, Venison, Chocolate, Sushi and Porridge.
He reckons his favourite Whisky bar is the Ben Nevis in Glasgow when he's not swigging a dram at the top of a mountain.
He explained: "The bar I first took Alex to, where we discussed starting Great Glen is the Ben Nevis bar in Glasgow. You can’t beat the top of a mountain for a wee nip, too."
He also revealed that during Men in Kilts filming a whisky tasting with costar Graham McTavish led to drunkenness on Graham's part.
He laughed: "He was complaining and drunk all day. I was delighted."
