Sam Heughan saddens fans with latest news about Sassenach whisky

Outlander star Sam Hueghan has disappointed fans with the latest update about his hugely popular Sassenach whisky.

The Scottish actor, who was born in Balmaclellan and brought up in New Galloway, realised a dream when he created his own spirits brand a few years back.

Eager fans were delighted when he released his first-ever whisky, named after the nickname Sam’s character Jamie has given his on-screen love interest Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) in the hit show, last year.

He's left them disappointed with his latest update though after admitting that the second batch release date has been put back.

Posting on his Instagram, Sam wrote: "As you may be aware, there is extreme congestion at seaports worldwide and a global shortage of shipping containers and trucks.

"Unfortunately, we have also become affected by this global shipping crisis and are left with no choice but to slightly delay our planned August 25th release."

Fans were left disappointed, as the release date had been slated for the end of this month.

One responded: "Oh no!!! I’m down to my last few drops... but worth the wait."

While another added: "I guess I can wait a bit longer... sigh. The best things in life are worth the wait!"

Sam added that he would let people know the new date as soon as possible, writing: "Rest assured that the new date will be announced shortly as The Sassenach Spirit of Home Edition is currently on the high seas, heading to the United States!

"Please bear with us as we work on an update with a new release date soon!"

The Scottish actor announced the decision to launch the spirit business in an interview with The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) published in 2019, describing it as the "first stop is obviously the lifelong dream of having my own dram".

He's also previously joked that whisky makes you "thinner and happier", but added that the real reason he loves whisky is that it reminds him "so much of home".
