Sam Heughan gives an update on filming of Outlander season six

Outlander star Sam Heughan has given an update on the filming of season six of the show in an interview with This Morning.

Speaking to presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield via video link from Glasgow, the Scots actor chatted about the fact that shooting has been delayed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Stating that the producers are working hard to get it back up and running, Sam said: "We were supposed to be shooting right now and obviously things are still slightly up in the air, but I'm hopeful that we're going to be back before we know it and they are putting plans in place."

However, Sam wasn't able to give a definite date for when they'd be back so expect the #Droughtlander to go on for a bit longer.

Following on from the dramatic finale to season five and with the new season set to (roughly) follow the events in Diana Gabaldon’s sixth Outlander book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, the new season will deal with the fallout from season five and the looming American Revolution.

The Starz show which is primarily filmed in Scotland, with a number of scenes shot in Cumbernauld, recently put a call out for trainees to work in plastering, painting, costume design and more, for when filming returns.

Sam also spoke about his new project Men in Kilts, which features the actor and Graham McTavish heading around Scotland on an adventure and was hatched up by the pair after a "few whiskies".

The Dumfries-born star joked that the premise of the show is basically him putting Graham in "really uncomfortable situations" and watching him "blow up".

He added that it has been a "whirlwind" to be part of such an incredible show, he said: "I probably thought it would last a couple of years and here we are five seasons in, six years of shooting and the show just keeps getting bigger. The fan base has been really rewarding."

And when asked about rumours he was in the running to be the next James Bond, he stated that it would be a "dream role", before adding: "Who doesn't want to see another Scottish James Bond."
