Sam Heughan declares 'interest' in becoming next James Bond amid 007 rumours

Outlander star Sam Heughan has admitted that he is ‘interested’ in becoming the next James Bond.

The Scots actor has been heavily linked with the role as 007 once Daniel Craig departs from the film series.

A poll carried out by Radio Times last year saw Sam beat the likes of Tom Hardy and Idris Elba as the choice to take on the coveted spy role.

And the rumour mill has been going wild ever since.

Speaking to Esquire magazine, Sam described James Bond as a ‘great character’ and declared that he was keen to one day play the film legend.

“I think any actor would never say they’re not interested”, he said.

“Of course, you’d be interested. I mean, it is rumours, and sometimes you think, should I, should we even talk about it? Because you don’t want to jinx it.

“But yeah, he’s a great character and would certainly be a fascinating character study and place to kick off.”

The Outlander star got fans talking earlier this year after he posted a picture of himself kitted out in full Scottish attire on the Men in Kilts Instagram page.

A caption for the image read: “The name is Heughan. Sam Heughan.”

Many saw this as the closest thing to confirming that he would indeed be replacing Daniel Craig.

The English actor’s 15-year stint as 007 will come to an end when No Time to Die is released in cinemas in September 2021.

It was originally scheduled to be released in November 2019, but it was delayed a number of times due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sam Heughan is currently bookmakers sixth favourite to replace Daniel Craig - with Tom Hardy, James Norton and Idris Elba making up the top three.
