Sam Heughan announced as star of new Channel 4 thriller 'The Couple Next Door'

Outlander hunk Sam Heughan has announced he will be working on a brand new role in news that has left fans delighted.

The Scots star is set to appear in the Channel 4 thriller 'The Couple Next Door'. He will join a star-studded cast including Eleanor Tomlinson, Jessica De Gouw and Alfred Enoch.

The six-part psychological thriller explores the claustrophobic feel of suburbia and the troubles of giving in to romantic desires, Heughan and Tomlinson are joined in the cast by Pennyworth's Jessica De Gouw and How To Get Away With Murder's Alfred Enoch.

Sharing the news on Instagram, 42-year-old Sam Heughan said: "A happy duck birthday to Mr @driesvos and my first day on set!! Excited to be working on new drama “The Couple Next Door” which will be at home on @starz @channel4 @eagleeyedrama "

Fans flocked to the comments to congratulate the star.

Victoria M Vaughn wrote: "Break a leg Sam; so excited for you. Looking forward to seeing this. Congrats."

Barbara Mills chimed: "Congratulations Sam!"

Upon landing the role of Danny, Sam told Channel 4 : "I'm thrilled to be working with Eagle Eye Drama and director Dries Vos again and adding a third series with my STARZ family. Dries has a unique visual flair and I'm sure we're going to make something special."

Fans can look forward to seeing Sam return to screens in June when he will reprise his role as Jamie Fraser in the seventh and penultimate season of Outlander.

Outlander series 1-6 are available to stream on LIONSGATE+ in the UK.
