Sam Greenwood rewarded for stunning start to life at Leeds United

Sam Greenwood says he needs to continue his good form after winning the Premier League 2 player of the month award for September.

The striker, who signed from Arsenal in the summer, has had a superb start to his career in the Whites' under-23s side.

Greenwood opened his account for the development side when he netted in a 2-2 draw with Wolves at Thorp Arch.

He then scored a sensational hat-trick against boyhood club Sunderland, who he joined Arsenal from, in a 3-1 away win, ending the month with four goals from three matches.

His hat-trick was a particular highlight as he twice ran through on goal to showcase a powerful finishing ability and also curled home an impressive free-kick.

It was enough to convince Leeds fans that Greenwood has a big future in the game.

Greenwood continued his good form for the under-23s into this month as he struck the winner in a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough.

Speaking to Leeds' website, the 18-year-old says he is now focussed on continuing in the way he has started his career at the Whites and paid tribute to those at the club who have welcomed him since his arrival in August.

He said: "I'm delighted with the award, I think I've done well at the start of my Leeds journey and hopefully I can carry it on.

"It was good to get the hat-trick against my old club, the lads did really well, it was a great team performance and we need to keep pushing as a team, that is the most important thing.

"I'm loving my time here, I've settled in straight away, everyone here is so nice, it's a family club and I've been made to feel so welcome since day one."

Greenwood's form has also been enough to earn him a call-up to Ian Foster's England under-19s squad.

He beat six other under-23s players to win the award.

His step-up to under-23s level has been all the more impressive after he netted just once in five games for Arsenal in his first season at this level of youth football.
