Sam Greenwood returns to Leeds United's under-23s line-up following first-team debut

Sam Greenwood has returned to the Leeds United under-23s starting XI after making his first-team debut in yesterday's FA Cup defeat at Crawley Town.

The 18-year-old was handed his first taste of senior football when he came off the bench after 58 minutes in Leeds' 3-0 defeat at the Broadfield Stadium and will now get more minutes under his belt when Mark Jackson's side visit Burnley in the Premier League 2.

Elia Caprile and Niall Huggins, who were unused substitutes against Crawley, are the only other players that featured in yesterday's matchday FA Cup squad to be included again today.

Marcelo Bielsa only named seven substitutes rather than the permitted nine in West Sussex, no doubt with one eye on today's under-23s match.

Jackson has gone with a young side for the trip across the Pennines, with no first-team regulars named in his squad. That means Diego Llorente's return to action continues.

The 27-year-old was injured while on international duty shortly after signing for the club and another spell on the sidelines followed after he made his debut at Stamford Bridge after Robin Koch limped off inside the first ten minutes.

"Llorente is in conditions to play if needed, but we’re being more cautious with him," Bielsa said regarding the centre-back in his pre-Crawley press conference on Friday. This caution has seen him miss out today, but Bielsa was able to welcome Liam Cooper back to the fray on Sunday.

Jackson's side ended 2020 with a 7-1 thrashing of Fulham which has meant they spent the festive season sitting at the top of the Premier League 2 Division 2.  Today's opponents Burnley sit 11th in the table, but have won their past two matches.
