Sam Fender tells Lorraine how he had to turn down a night out with Stormzy

Geordie rock star Sam Fender has been so busy promoting his debut album that he had to turn down a night out with one of the biggest names in music.

Sam, who released debut album Hypersonic Missiles today, appeared on ITV's Lorraine this morning, where he spoke about a whirlwind year , which has seen him sign a record deal, headline Mouth of the Tyne Festival and earn critical acclaim for his new album.

In between all of that, the 25-year-old from North Shields has toured the USA, hung out with Sting, played with the E-Street band's Little Steven and won a Brit Award.

At this month's Q Awards, Sam met possibly the biggest name in the UK music industry, grime icon and Glastonbury headliner Stormzy.

Sam told Lorraine about hanging out with Stormzy, who is a huge fan of Fender's work, especially the poignant song about suicide, Deadboys.

But a sensible Sam had to swerve going on a night out with "incredible" Stormzy after the awards.

He told Lorraine: "Obviously I think he's incredible, and he was like, 'let's go for a drink, come out for a drink tonight'."

"I was just like I've got so much promo, I was like you guys... I just knew the next day, if I went out and got drunk..."

Sam added: "Also, they're legends and stuff, nobody knows who I am."
