Sam Fender sends pizza and kebabs to fans who queued up at midnight to get his album

Sam Fender's album shot straight to number 1 as soon as it was released at the end of last week and the man himself thanked fans who queued up late at night to be among the first to get a copy.

One of the mostly hotly anticipated releases of the year, the North Shields' musician's debut includes singles like Play God, Dead Boys and Will We Talk, as well as the sax-laden title track, and came out when the clock struck midnight on Friday.

Within hours it was sitting pretty which is of course based on digital sales, but among the first to get their hands on a physical copy were fans who queued up at Newcastle record store Beyond Vinyl.

The store opened at the unusual hour specially for the launch and a special listening and Sam showed his gratitude by sending them kebabs and pizzas - what a man!

Sam and his band had been in the Westgate Road shop earlier in the week to sign 100 limited edition picture discs in time for Hypersonic Missiles' release and the album has already broken sale records for Beyond Vinyl, beating any new release from the past decade.

"Sam has been very supported of out shop and loves what we are doing with the place and to top it off he was over the moon with our offer to support the release with a midnight opening to showcase the album."

Owner Dave McGovern told Chronicle Live "We couldn’t be more proud of Sam and his debut album and wish him all the success. No one could be more worthy of the success than Sam and his band.
