Sam Fender explains why he's had to agonisingly postpone tour and Newcastle shows

An "absolutely gutted" Sam Fender has released an emotional video explaining why he has had to postpone the rest of his winter tour after a warning from a top doctor.

Sam was due to play in Cardiff, Dublin, Belfast and Sheffield, as well as two homecoming shows at the O2 Academy in Newcastle later this month.

But the Geordie singer has had to postpone the remaining dates after taking advice from a specialist doctor in Harley Street, London, who told him he has give his voice a rest, due to his laryngitis.

A clearly upset looking Sam has posted a video on his Instagram page to update his fans and explain what has been happening.

Sam, who has suffered from bouts of illness throughout the year, said he would risk serious damage to his vocal cords if he carries on singing in December.

Sam, from North Shields, managed to

perform twice in Newcastle

last weekend, but he has been warned he can not continue with the remaining dates.

Sam said: "I'm absolutely gutted that I've had to say this, but I can't carry on with the rest of this tour.

"I've been to Harley Street to see the specialist, I've had a camera down my throat, I've got laryngitis, I've got bruising on the left side of my [vocal] cords and they're saying if I carry on or if I try to sing anymore, I'm going to hemorrhage my vocal cords, and that'll be me out for months, and I simply can not risk that anymore. I'm not going to have what happened last time.

"So that is the end of the tour. I'm working on what I can do to try and reschedule things. It's a f****ing nightmare, because I've had the best time of my life on this tour and I've literally played everything by the rules and I've not drank for two months, I've been solid, I thought I've been on top form, I thought I was fine, but I kept getting ill, I've had sort of bits of cold and flu stuff in between, and I thought I was kind of getting away with it."

He added: "I'm going to figure out what we're doing over the next couple of days, and I'll let everybody know what we're going to do with regards to rescheduling the shows and again, I'm really, really sorry."

Sam's summer gigs at Newcastle Arena and This is Tomorrow Festival are still set to go ahead as planned, while the academy gigs scheduled for Saturday December 21 and Sunday December 22 will be rescheduled.
