Sam Fender duets with Elton John at music legend's annual Oscars party in Hollywood

His short time in the spotlight has already given him plenty of highlights but Sunday night brought a huge moment in Sam Fender's career when he was asked to perform at Elton John's annual Oscars party in Los Angeles.

The 25-year-old North Shields singer has had an amazing 12 months following his Brit Awards win for Critics Choice at the turn of 2019. He has sold out concerts all over the world in America, Australia and Japan and of course on home turf, where he now holds the record for the fastest-selling gig ever at Tynemouth Priory.

His debut album Hypersonic Missiles shot straight to number 1 and has now been certified Gold and next week Sam is up for another Brit Award in the Best New Artist category.

But this weekend, Sam was kept busy with a performance in front of some of Hollywood's biggest names at Elton John's AIDS Foundation gala. The annual bash, which includes a live auction, benefits Elton's AIDS Foundation, which provides treatment, testing, care and support to people at risk of or living with HIV in 23 different countries across the world.

Speaking to Billboard.com about Sam, Elton's husband David Furnish said "Elton has a great eye and ear for musical talent, and Sam Fender is someone that he hand picked.

"He’s a fantastic, young, exciting talent, great live musician."

Elton joined Sam on stage for a duet of the Geordie singer's hit Will We Talk during his set and was in celebratory mood as his original song I'm Gonna) Love Me Again from Rocketman, took home the Oscar for Best Original Song.
