Sam Fender drops huge hint on St James' Park gig announcement after fan speculation

Sam Fender has sent his fans into a frenzy by dropping a huge hint that he's about to announce a gig at St James' Park, days after speculation was first fuelled.

Last Thursday, as Newcastle United fans waited for new club record signing Alexander Isak to be unveiled at the Magpies ground, after he was spotted heading in, people on the SJP stadium tour shared footage of North Shields musician Sam on the pitch, with the footage causing a storm on Twitter, before Sam and his band posed for photos with fans.

The strains of the iconic Geordie anthem were also heard by supporters standing outside the ground hoping to catch a glimpse of Isak, with United legend Alan Shearer also clocked going in. There was initial theories banded about on Twitter that Sam could have been involved in some sort of elaborate unveiling for Isak but, after the Swedish striker's signing was eventually confirmed with a video not featuring Sam at all, thoughts turned to the prospect of Sam announcing a gig at St James', something many of his fans have been crying out for for ages.

Brit Award winner Sam, wo smashed his Glastonbury debut a few months ago, further fuelled the fire on Wednesday night by urging social media followers not yet signed up to his mailing list to make sure they did as something was brewing and then on Thursday night he got people even more excited when he posted a picture of himself in a NUFC tracksuit top, from his legendary interview on BBC Breakfast after the takeover and captioned it: "We've got really big news, really really big news tomorrow."

To say the reaction to Sam's tweet has been massive would be a huge understatement. Replies quickly flooded in and, at the time of writing, it had been retweeted close to 1,000 times. One responded: "Can’t contain my excitement man! Manifesting it’s a gig at SJP," with a second telling them: "Telling you has to be get scarfs and bucket hats at the ready."
