Sam Fender and his band join Newcastle United fans for mass Geordie party in Trafalgar Square

Sam Fender and his bandmates joined the epic party going on in London on Saturday night as Newcastle United fans took over Trafalgar Square, resulting in amazing scenes in the capital.

Train loads of NUFC fans made their way south on Saturday morning, from both Newcastle and Sunderland's main stations, in time for United's Carabao Cup final clash with Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday. But, before kick off almost 24 hours later, there was plenty of singing to be done, with thousands of supporters heading to the landmark to get in the spirit nice and early.

As the sun set on Saturday evening, social media started to be filled with photos and videos of the sea of black and white surrounding the Square's famous fountain and, having uploaded of a video en route to join the party on his Instagram a few hours earlier, Seventeen Going Under star Sam returned to his Insta story with a video of his saxophone player Johnny Blue Hat performing a impromptu version of Hey Jude, to the delight of everyone there.

A few selfies of fans with Sam on Saturday night made their way onto Twitter, as the atmosphere in London mirrored that of the one outside St James' Park back in 2021, when Sam and Johnny partied with fans on the night of the club takeover, before the Brit winner famously turned up to BBC Breakfast massively hungover the next morning.

Having been a special guest at the Crystal Palace match earlier this season, right after his gig announcement, Sam will be back at SJP in June for two sold out stadium shows, with tickets flying out within minutes of them going on sale.

Talking about what it meant to him to be playing on the St James' pitch, Sam said "t's a childhood dream come true. I always joked that one day we might play St James' Park in Newcastle, the biggest stadium in the north east, and now we're actually gonna play it on the 9th June next year.

"It's gonna be such a special moment and I hope you all join us for it."
