The perception and narrative surrounding New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is an interesting one. He is routinely portrayed as an immature diva who parties hard and takes little seriously.
In reality, that’s the furthest thing from the truth, but once a reputation is established, it’s hard to shake it.
Beckham, of course, has aided that to some degree with his on-field battles with Josh Norman, his antics with a kicking net and, of course, a very questionable viral video with an Instagram model and white powdery substance.
Still, anyone who knows Beckham away from all that will tell you he’s a wonderful, kind and humble human being, which is exactly what New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold learned earlier this week when he met the man he once considered “out of control.”
“There’s so much to think about Odell and who is Odell? There’s this aura around him and then I just met him [on Thursday] and he’s a normal dude. You know what I’m saying? He’s a cool guy,” Darnold told Sports Illustrated. “He was like, ‘I’m going to be out in L.A. Let’s hang,’ just like normal person. For me, it was like, Oh he’s just dancing all the time, just out of control. He’s just a normal person, which I think was really cool.”
As the saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover.
