Sam Cosgrove 'targeted' by Newcastle United as Aberdeen striker subject of shock EPL interest

A report has claimed Aberdeen frontman Sam Cosgrove is a shock target for Premier League Newcastle United.

Steve Bruce's Magpies haven't quite hit the heights this season with the likes of £40m man Joelinton misfiring while summer arrival Callum Wilson has struggled to stay 100 per cent fit.

And according to the Scottish Sun, the Toon boss has identified Cosgrove as a potential solution to their goalscoring issues in England's top flight.

The Dons man has just one goal this season after recently recovering from a knee injury sustained in pre-season.

But Newcastle appear happy to look past that with Cosgrove's 23 strikes from last season proving hard to ignore.

He was the subject of transfer interest during the extended summer window as French Ligue 2 side Guingamp saw a bid of around £2m accepted by Aberdeen in July, but the striker ultimately decided against moving.

Bruce has already dipped into the Scottish market, signing Motherwell keeper Mark Gillespie as cover between the St James' Park posts.
