Sam Cosgrove snubs Dundee transfer as ex Aberdeen star rejects Premiership return offer

Dundee have failed in an ambitious move to bring Sam Cosgrove back to the Premiership.

The Dark Blues had agreed terms on a loan deal with Birmingham City, but the 25-year-old’s preference is to remain in England.

The former Aberdeen star is set to return from his loan at Shrewsbury Town but has other options in England that he wants to pursue.

Dundee boss James McPake and his board did everything they could to make it happen but couldn’t persuade Cosgrove to return north.

He still wants to make a name for himself in England.

McPake knows that Cosgrove was a proven goalscorer in his time at Aberdeen and could really have added more ammunition to his frontline.

The frontman moved from Pittodrie to Birmingham for more than £2.5 million last year.

Cosgrove has struggled to make an impact at the Blues but hasn’t really been given much of a chance at St Andrews.

He was sent out on loan to Shrewsbury earlier this season.

McPake has several other striking options in the pipeline and is now progressing with them, as he looks to bolster his squad for the second half of the season.

Canadian international midfielder Jay Chapman is a target while the Dark Blues also have defender Paul Watson on trial.
