Sam Cosgrove in Birmingham City transfer bid as Aberdeen weigh up £2million offer for star striker

Birmingham City have launched a £2million move for Aberdeen’s star striker Sam Cosgrove.

The English Championship are keen to try and do a deal before the close of the window.

The Blues, who are also interested in Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet, are in talks with the Dons over a potential transfer.

Aberdeen turned down an approach from rivals Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the window.

The Dons accepted a £2.5million offer from French side Guingamp in the summer but the player knocked back a move to France.

The Granite City outfit could get a deal close to that once add-ons are included as Aitor Karanka looks to add to his squad.

Cosgrove has scored an impressive 47 goals in 103 games for the Dons.

Derek McInnes signed him as a project player from Carlisle United and since then he has been transformed into one of the top strikers in Scotland.

The majority of the money will go towards helping Aberdeen balance the books, as with Scott McKenna’s club record £3million sale to Nottingham Forest in the summer.

Manager McInnes is likely to be able to now be able to strengthen his squad if this deal goes through.

He has already trimmed his wage bill with Ryan Edmondson and Marley Watkins returning to their parent clubs and Funso Ojo joining Wigan Athletic on loan.

Winger Scott Wright has also signed a pre-contract deal with Rangers, who are expected to try and do a deal before the close of the window.
