Sam Cosgrove in Aberdeen injury blow as striker set to miss four to six weeks with knee problem

Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove is set to miss the start of the Scottish season with a knee injury.

The Dons striker was set to line up for Derek McInnes' men in this Saturday's Scottish Premiership opener against Rangers.

But now it looks like he'll be sidelined for the first four to six weeks of the campaign after tearing a ligament in a pre-season friendly.

The injury was sustained last weekend when the Pittodrie club took on Hibs in a bounce match.

Cosgrove isn't expected to be operated on despite the lay-off but nonetheless it's a hammer blow for McInnes just days away from the new season.

Weeks prior to the injury, Cosgrove knocked back a move to Ligue 2 after Guingamp had a bid accepted for the English striker.

And it looks like if the Aberdeen hierarchy wanted to cash in on their striker they will have to wait a bit longer.

Cosgrove found the net a whopping 23 times in 2019/20 but McInnes will now look to his bench to lead the line this weekend.
