Sam Cosgrove faces Europa League sweat as tight hamstring makes him a doubt for Rijeka showdown

Aberdeen face a sweat to see if top scorer Sam Cosgrove will be fit for Thursday’s make-or-break Europa League clash with Rijeka.

The big striker, who has scored eight goals in his last six games, missed Sunday’s defeat at St Mirren with a tight hamstring.

Cosgrove will have the injury scanned on Monday but Derek McInnes will be keeping his fingers crossed he is fit as Aberdeen try to overturn a 2-0 deficit at Pittodrie.

The manager said: "He has a tightness in his hamstring.

“He reported it on Saturday and we tried to give him every chance but he just felt it was becoming more of an issue and we decided not to bring him with us and stay back and get treatment in Aberdeen.

“He'll get scanned tomorrow and I think he is touch and go for Thursday.

“Clearly, any team would miss someone in Sam's form.

“I hope he's going to be okay for Thursday but at this stage, it's not clear yet.”

The Dons lost to St Mirren for the first time in eight years as Ilkay Durmus' first-half goal proved enough for Jim Goodwin’s side.
