Sam Cosgrove Celtic red card questioned by Aberdeen goalkeeper as he insists striker 'was on the ground the whole way'

Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis insists Sam Cosgrove "was on the ground the whole way" in the incident which saw him sent off against Celtic.

The striker was dismissed for a challenge on Kris Ajer as his side went down 2-1 in Glasgow, having scored the equaliser early in the game.

Manager Derek McInnes was furious about the decision and the Aberdeen goalkeeper also felt the red card was harsh.

Lewis told Aberdeen's website : "For the sending off, I am a long way away from that tackle so it is difficult to comment on it.

"It looked like though he was on the ground the whole way. It did not look like there was any intent to injure the player but the referee has deemed it to be a sending off. and that is very disappointing.

“Hopefully we can appeal that and get the red card overturned.

“We have to look forward.

“Sam has been really important with his goals but if he is not available for the next two games it is time for other people to step up and start chipping in with some goals."

After the match McInnes accused Ajer of play-acting to try and get Cosgrove sent off.

"You have to make sure you get the ball and 100 percent, it's a brilliant tackle. He probably doesn't need to go in as quick but he gets it cleanly.

“Big Ajer was laughing and winking at him lying on the ground. There was nothing wrong with the boy, he carried on. I didn't see anything wrong with him running about."
