Sam Burgess has been named in Bath’s 41-man squad for this season’s European Champions Cup as uncertainty continues to surround his future, with the player contemplating a return to rugby league only 12 months after switching codes.
Burgess, who has two years left on his contract with Bath and is due to resume training with the Premiership club on Monday, has taken a break in Spain and a return to South Sydney Rabbitohs is under serious consideration after his difficult showing for England during the World Cup.
Bath’s opening Champions Cup game is away against the reigning European champions Toulon on 15 November and the 26-year-old features in the group of players named by Bath for the tournament.
The Bath coach, Mike Ford, was this week adamant that Burgess would stay in union but the player is thought to be eager to make a return to the 13-man code.
