The Golden Bachelor is in full swing and punters are loving the mature chaos, in particular the jaw-dropping moment on last night’s ep involving host Samantha Armytage.
“It’s the moment that could turn the show around,” one insider told PEDESTRIAN.TV. “Everyone’s talking about it internally. It’s raw, it’s real and it’s the kind of television you can’t fake.”
In the episode, Sam breaks the golden hosting rule and turns the spotlight on herself. Instead of keeping her distance like Bachelor hosts before her, she sits down with the women to share personal details about her own love life, which is really the first time we have heard her reflect on her marriage breakdown with Richard Lavender.

“Everybody goes through shit, and life is hard and messy and there’s not a person on the planet who doesn’t feel like that or go through that,” she says in the ep.
“You kind of wear it like a badge of honour. I know I wear some of my grief now like a badge of honour. You’ve been through crap, you’ve survived it.”
The moment has since gone somewhat viral, with even the higher ups at the network becoming overjoyed by the glowing reaction.
“You could hear a pin drop,” says a production insider. “She wasn’t reading off cue cards. She was just being Sam. Honest, emotional and totally unfiltered.”

Crew members on set have described the moment as “brave and raw”, with many saying it changed the entire energy of the show. This is something Osher could never have done on Network Ten.
Behind the scenes, Sam’s not just handing out roses, she’s basically holding therapy sessions. Producers say she’s become a confidante for the contestants, often stepping in when women were thinking of quitting.
“She took people aside and talked them through it,” the source said. “She convinced more than one woman to stay. That’s how much they trust her.”
According to insiders, Armytage wanted to make The Golden Bachelor feel less like a stunted ‘dating show’ and focus more on the conversation about second chances.
“She’s bringing heart, honesty and emotional intelligence to a format that’s always been about drama and tears,” one source added. “This is her version of love TV and she’s betting audiences will get it.”
Despite the softer start, Nine is still backing Sam to pull viewers back in, hence her whopping pay check. Executives are confident that after audiences saw her open up in the episode, the show will find its footing and maybe even give the franchise a second wind.
Whether it’s a comeback or a final rose for The Golden Bachelor, one thing’s clear: Sam Armytage’s golden touch might just save the show.
