Sam Allardyce urges Newcastle United to give Steve Bruce time after slow start

Newcastle United's start to life under Steve Bruce has certainly been tough, with the Magpies experiencing defeat in both their matches so far in 2019/20.

A narrow loss at the hands of Arsenal on the opening weekend was followed by a forgetful trip to tackle newly-promoted Norwich City on Saturday, where a Teemu Pukki hat-trick gave the visitors all three points.

Things do not get any easier this weekend for Newcastle, as they're on the road again and face Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur, before clashing with Leicester City in the League Cup and Watford in the Premier League before the first international break of the season.

Therefore, there is plenty for Newcastle and Bruce to improve upon and the pressure is rising upon the Toon boss, who already had a near impossible task on his hands after succeeding Rafa Benitez.

However, former Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has urged the club to give Bruce time in finding his feet on Tyneside, stating that the pressure is incomparable to what Daniel Farke faces at Norwich.

"Steve's been in there three weeks and he's getting to know his players and staff there," he told TalkSport.

"There's huge, huge pressure. There's much more pressure, believe me because I've been there, there's much more pressure on you at Newcastle than there is at Norwich.

"Of course he's done a fantastic job at Norwich, an unbelievable job, and Pukki, wow, a free transfer! It's amazing isn't it. He's turned his life around and he's a real handful.

"Steve needs to find a result or two to get a bit of time but it's fair to say, no win until November [last season], and if Steve is getting some stick now, where was the stick for Rafa?"
