Sam Allardyce told he needs to win just one game to ensure Leeds United survival

Carlton Palmer has claimed that one win will be good enough for Leeds United to avoid relegation this season following the club's decision to appoint Sam Allardyce as interim manager.

Allardyce takes charge with the club out of the relegation zone on goal difference alone. The Whites face Manchester City, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur in what is a daunting run of fixtures to end the season.

However, Palmer believes that the club only need to find a way to win of their next four matches to ensure their place in the top-flight for the 2023/24 season.

"First of all I love Leeds United," he told talkSPORT. "I don't want to see them get relegated. I'm a big fan of Sam. not just as a football manager, as a bloke. He's a top, top bloke. He knows what he's doing.

"I think he'll be a bit disappointed in terms of not being able to bring his normal backroom staff in. But I think Leeds have looked at this right. They've got two prongs at this. The only club that Sam's gone to that he hasn't been able to save and not stayed at was West Bromwich Albion.

"And I think the only reason why he didn't stay at West Bromwich Albion - and that's been proven - that the board wouldn't give him the money to bring the club back at the first attempt. So with Leeds, he is going to try [to keep them up] and I think he'll do it. I think one win will be good enough to do it.

"What killed the teams at the bottom the other night was Leicester and Everton drawing. You know, one of those teams needed to win that give them a chance. So I can only see Forest getting three points at home to Southampton. I can't see them getting any more points in those games [left this season] - so I think Sam will do it."
