Sam Allardyce sneered at Everton's ambition - but Marco Silva has now set the bar

For the third home game in a row lucky Everton faced another top-six opponent and managed to scrape a win and a clean sheet.

Or if you don’t work for the national media Everton played fantastically well again and made our opponents look bad.

Keane and Zouma didn’t give the quiet man of international breaks a look in. Gueye was everywhere and Calvert-Lewin’s hold-up play is getting better and better – he just needs a goal.

The left-hand side is quickly becoming reminiscent of Baines and Pienaar. Bernard has got better as the season has gone on and Digne has been the best left-back in the league this season bar none.

After such an abject performance against Fulham, only Everton could bounce back and comprehensively put four past Manchester United. From our worst performance of the season to our best performance of the season in the space of eight days.

Sunday’s demolition job over United was an absolute pleasure to watch.

From the first minute to the last, we simply wanted it more than they did.

Marco Silva reveals Everton injury concern ahead of Crystal Palace clash

But the benchmark has now been firmly set.

We must aspire to play at those levels in our last three games – especially considering we still have a chance of seventh.

'Only a year ago Evertonians had Sam Allardyce and his cronies sneering at us for having ambition'

Easter Sunday felt simply magnificent.

Tearing Manchester United to utter shreds in wonderful sunshine with the whole world watching was glorious.

I’d actually say it was the best day we’ve had since Farhad Moshiri came in. The performance showed us most that real progress is finally being made.

Six points out of the nine remaining will likely be enough and personally I definitely want to see us in Europe next season.

Marco Silva offers measured response to Everton's credit debate following Manchester United win

Only a year ago Evertonians had Sam Allardyce and his cronies sneering at us for having ambition.

Today we’re feeling more enthusiastic about the future than we have for decades.

Delightful.

'Everton belong in Europe.. whatever the negatives may be'

Three games of the Premier League season to go and the teams competing for seventh place can barely be separated.

Not long ago the fabled ‘best of the rest’ position in the table was Everton’s by right with a massive 14-point gap between seventh and eighth the season before last. Since then the Blues have botched their recruitment somewhat and the pretender clubs have improved, closing that gap.

This is when Everton boss Marco Silva will decide on Richarlison's fitness for Crystal Palace game

Everton belong in Europe. Whatever the negatives of playing in Europe, they’re far outweighed by the positives. Players want to play there. The players we already have and the players we’re looking to bring in.
