Sam Allardyce fumes as West Brom hit with blow ahead of Leeds United clash

West Bromwich Albion captain Jake Livermore will miss next week's Premier League clash with Leeds United - much to the annoyance of new boss Sam Allardyce.

Livermore is facing a three-match ban after being sent off during Sunday's 3-0 home defeat to Aston Villa.

That rules the midfielder out of the game against Leeds at the Hawthorns on Tuesday, December 29.

Livermore was shown a straight red card following a lunge on Villa's Jack Grealish 36 minutes into Allardyce's first match in charge.

Bielsa's reaction after his side lost 6-2 at Old Trafford

Allardyce, who replaced the sacked Slaven Bilic at the helm, saw his Albion side fall behind after only five minutes to Anwar El Ghazi's opener.

Bertrand Traore added a late second before El Ghazi compounded West Brom's misery from the penalty spot.

After the match, an unhappy Allardyce suggested Livermore could end up losing the captain's armband as a result of his actions.

“I'm really disappointed with the result and sending off of our captain," said the former England boss.

“I am upset with Jake. I couldn't be anything other than upset.

“The first thing I said to the lads was we can't afford any more red cards because they had already had two and lo and behold.

“I won't accept another sending off no matter what.

“Otherwise we will have no chance of staying up.

“He gets fined for the sending off and because he did a reckless thing on the pitch we lose him for three matches.

"He has apologised and looks very upset.

“But if I consider someone else does well with the armband next then they can keep it.”

West Brom - promoted from the Championship along with Leeds last season - are second from bottom of the Premier League table after 14 matches, three points from safety.

Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds are 14th in the table - 10 points better off than the Baggies.
