Saltend Chemicals Park to host major European conference

Hull’s Saltend Chemicals Park is to host a major European gathering next week.

The site, near Hedon, will stage the AGM of the European Chemical Site Promotion Platform on October 16 and 17.

Members of the group, which includes chemical clusters, operators and port authorities from across the continent, will also stage a symposium on marketing and promotion.

They will then be shown around Saltend, a multi-tenant chemicals park owned by operator px.

Patrick Pogue, group business development director at PX, said: “We welcome the opportunity to bring the European chemicals community to Saltend and showcase PX’s capability in operations and maintenance, engineering and energy trading.

“We have a number of long established, world class manufacturers based at Saltend that continue to announce further investment in their assets.

“In addition, we have seen new customers arrive because they understand the benefits of building their new production facilities in a location that has an established infrastructure and an extensive provision of services, feedstocks and utilities - enabling them to drive down costs and increase efficiency.

“The event will strengthen the relationships between the various European chemical sites, enabling them to work together to increase awareness about Europe’s advantages and bring new investment into the region.”

Keynote presentations at the event will be delivered by Diana Taylor, managing director at Marketing Humber and John Moss, chemicals and bio-economy sector specialist at the Department for International Trade.

The bi-annual symposium, which takes place at a different European site each time, is open to any European organisation with a core business involving the management of a chemical site or chemical related operations in Europe, which is actively engaged in promoting its site for new investments.

The event will also include a tour of Saltend Chemicals Park, which PX acquired from BP in March 2018, for delegates from Germany, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Finland and the UK.

In addition to Saltend, PX currently operates and maintains major gas processing plants in Scotland and on Teesside; a gas pipeline in the North Sea; power generating operations on Teesside, in Cumbria, Lincolnshire and in Wales.

Saltend Chemicals Park is a cluster of world-class chemicals and renewable energy businesses.

The site has seen £500 million of investment in recent years and its products form part of everyday life, from clothing to paints, pharmaceuticals and packaging.

Big-name tenants at the park include BP, INEOS, Nippon Gohsei and Tricoya.
