Saltcoats town centre cordoned off amid reports of 'parcel bomb'

Police have cordoned off Saltcoats town centre amids reports of  'parcel bomb' at a post office.

An eyewitness told the Daily Record that six police cars, two vans and a number of fire engines have been spotted around the Chapelwell Street post office.

And she heard unconfirmed reports there had been a suspected parcel bomb discovered at the post office.

She told the Record: "I was on my way to a Keep Fit class beyond the cordon when an officer told me to stay away from the area.

"The officer then added that there had been a ‘suspected parcel bomb’ at the post office.

"It was frightening to hear."

Update: Police confirmed just after 8.30pm that the bomb scare was a false alarm
