Saltburn cricket club cheating allegations investigated by league after footage goes viral

A cricket club is under investigation after video claiming to show a fielder attempting to trick the umpire went viral on social media.

Footage appears to show Saltburn’s first slip clicking his fingers - allegedly to signify an edge - as the ball passes a Norton cricket club batsman and is then caught by the wicketkeeper. Saltburn immediately appeal and the batsman is given out.

Footage of the incident, which the poster described as the “worst case of cheating I’ve ever seen in cricket”, quickly went viral.

Responding to the controversy, the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket (NYSD) League said in a statement: “The league have received a formal complaint regarding alleged incidents in a Division Two game on Saturday. A full investigation has been initiated and until such time as the formal processes are complete no further comment will be made.”
