Social media star Salt Bae has seen his London restaurant make soaring profits just four months of trade.
Salt Bae, whose real name is Nusret Gökçe, rose to prominence on social media for the way he seasons his steak with salt, with high-profile celebrities visiting his chain of Nusr-Et restaurants around the world to experience it first hand. Gökçe owns a number of steakhouses in desirable and luxurious places such as Dubai, Los Angeles and New York, just to name a few, and he opened his first UK restaurant in the capital in September 23, 2021.
Celebrities such as David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Statham, Matt Damon and Naomi Campbell are just a handful of stars to have experienced Salt Bae in action.
The holding company for the restaurant, Nusret UK Limited, published its accounts and revealed a profit of more than £2.3 million last year after performing "higher than expected" due to its £7 million worth of sales in that. It is no surprise that the Turkish chef and restaurateur has made a huge amount of money due to the extortionate prices at his luxury steakhouse.
For example, a gold burger can cost up to £100 while salads can set you back £23 and a drink of Coca-cola is priced at £9. However, £100 for a gold burger is relatively cheap when compared to the iconic gold-wrapped tomahawk steak, which costs a whopping £1,450.
The Only Way is Essex star Gemma Collins, 41, has spoken about her Salt Bae experience when she ordered the "24 carat gold steak" with fiancé Rami Hawash last October. Gemma went to the Knightsbridge venue, where Gökçe sliced and seasoned the meat in his typical style.
Speaking on The Gemma Collins Podcast, she said: "I have to give the ambience of the restaurant, the experience, a 10 out of 10. The bill was another situation, I was in utter shock. But you have to weigh these things up, the press reported that my steak cost £700, if only they knew. I wish it cost £700. It actually cost £1,450."
Trying to justify the hefty price tag, she later added: "I went a bit over the top, but the only way I can justify it was that I haven't been on holiday this year. I've been on a staycation, so we sort of had maybe all our holidays in one evening. It's something I've never done before, I would never spend that money, but we had a good evening.
"Yes we had 24 carat gold steak...I felt a bit sick. It was an amazing experience, I would have paid that to meet him anyway because I love him, and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity."
