Salon that denied existence of coronavirus will now be following all Covid-19 guidelines

A defiant beauty salon which stuck posters in its window denying the existence of coronavirus will now be complying with regulations.

Police and environmental health officers visited Skin Kerr Aesthetics, Hair and Beauty, in Bootle, yesterday, after social media posts said the salon was "Covid Free" and that "you can’t catch what doesn’t exist".

Sefton Council has today said they have had a "constructive" meeting with the salon’s owner, and they will now be following all precautionary measures regarding Covid-19.

A council spokesperson said: “Environmental health officers visited the premises yesterday and also had a constructive meeting with the salon’s owner this morning.

“The poster has been taken down permanently, we are satisfied that all the measures currently required for the safe operation of the premises are in place and we will be holding ongoing discussions to ensure this remains the case.”

However, the ECHO visited the salon this afternoon and found the poster was still in situ.

The poster, stuck to the salon window with masking tape, contained a series of bullet points stating: “Covid Free Salon; no masks, we take cash; covid talk is banned; you can’t catch what doesn’t exist.”

The bullet points end with "#voodoovirusisbullsh**" and "#wedonotconsent" and states “please respect the rules of the salon".

Under rules designed to limit the spread of the disease, hairdressers and salon staff are required to wear surgical face masks as well as clear visors.

Hairdressers and barbershops re-opened on July 4, meanwhile from August 15 all close contact beauty services, including facials and eyebrow treatments were allowed to resume.

Sefton Council says it is reminding local businesses and their customers of the importance of following the Government’s Covid-19 guidance, which includes the distancing, cleaning and face-covering measures required to help keep clients and staff safe.
