Salon offering 'first in the UK' beauty treatment opens in Nottingham city centre

A new beauty salon offering unique treatments has opened its doors in the city centre on Market Square. This is the second salon Unique Nails & Beauty has in Nottingham, with its original branch located in Lincoln Street.

The salon in Lincoln Street, which is known for its expert nail technicians, is the go-to spot for performers taking to Nottingham's many stages. One celebrity client included Dolly Parton who stopped by to get her nails done before a show in 2014 and chose a beautiful coral colour.

Owners Mary and Tim Leu wanted to open a larger salon that could offer more treatments which is when she discovered the new venue in Market Square. It meant a complete transformation as the premises had been a bookmaker before the owners took it on - a world away from the relaxing atmosphere it has now.

"We started our first salon over 20 years ago. When we first came here, we found there was nowhere to get nails done so we opened the first place here," Mary said.

"My husband lived here but he found that nail bars were very popular in America. His sister was living there and when he visited her for work, he wanted to set one up here."

The salon offers a huge range of services including waxing from brows to the bikini line. There are nail services ranging from manicures to pedicures with a display of every colour you could possibly think of.

It also offers a traditional ancient therapeutic hair wash which is a first for the UK. It combines gentle hair massage to release dirt and oil from the scalp with finger techniques and water pressure to stimulate blood circulation. To add to the relaxing experience, customers are treated to a neck and shoulder massage.

The treatments are offered in the brand-new relaxing spa rooms upstairs in the salon. There is also a luxurious CBD pedicure where customers can have a soothing soak in comfortable leather chairs before experiencing a hot stone massage to help with joint or muscle pain.

The most popular treatments are of course what the salon is known for, which is the extensive list of nail services and expert technicians. However, new hair services on offer are growing in popularity.

"The most popular treatments are the manicure and pedicures. I've brought the new hair treatment to the UK too which is very popular in Vietnam as it's very relaxing."

The shop has been given a new look with huge leather chairs complete with foot baths, a huge display of nail colours as well as a waiting area where customers can watch the world go past the huge windows. Although it's in one of the busiest areas of Nottingham's city centre, the salon has an air of calm and quiet relaxation.

It took Mary and Tim a while to convert the old building to the light tranquil feel it has today. "It took about three or four months before as it wasn't a salon before we opened. It was a bookmaker, Coral. It's been my dream to open a lovely, modern place like this. So this has been a dream come true."

She added: "My customers loved the salon on Lincoln Street and say it's the best in Nottingham but they always say they have to wait so long because we were so busy. I have always wanted to open one that is bigger than the other salon so that the customers can be comfortable."
