Salon left with £2,000 damage after burglars reversed into it with 'stolen' car

A salon owner has been left counting the cost after she was woken up in the middle of the night to the devastating news that her salon was being ransacked by burglars.

At around 4.30am on Thursday, July 25, Laura Fletcher, the owner of Simply Hair and Beauty in Derby Road, Bramcote, received a phone call telling her that her shop had been rammed into by a car.

By the time Mrs Fletcher arrived at the salon 10 minutes later the car had gone and the shop was left needing £2,000 worth of repairs.

She said officers told her the car involved had been stolen.

Mrs Fletcher, who has owned the shop for four years, said: "From the moment we got the phone call to the 10 minutes it took for us to get there they had gone.

"The police were already there and they sent out two riot vans and three police cars. Their response was amazing.

"We went inside and we looked at the CCTV and we saw the car pull up and reverse into the store front twice. Then a number of people ran in.

"What I think happened is they saw the CCTV camera pointing right at them and then decided not to bother."

Luckily nothing was taken from the salon but Mrs Fletcher has been left with more than £2,000 of damage after the door and front window was smashed in.

It isn't the first time the shop has been targeted.

Three years ago the same salon was hit by a similar attack where raiders broke in and stole stock.

Mrs Fletcher said: "I felt violated last time and I remember just wanting to scrub the place clean with bleach. This time though I feel more sorry for the people who had their car stolen.

"The attackers stole the car from Beeston and then used it to ram into the shop. They didn't take anything from me luckily but some poor household has had their car taken and ruined."

Mrs Fletcher said she believed salons were starting to be targeted more due to the expensive equipment and products they store.

Broxtowe South Police Station has warned the public to be vigilant following the incident.

A statement said: "In the early hours of the morning [July25], we attended an incident in which a vehicle had reversed into a hair salon as a method of entrance for a burglary.

"Investigations are currently on-going and we would like to encourage local business owners alongside members of the public to report anything suspicious to us."
