Salomon Rondon speaks out over Everton future as transfer not ruled out

Salomon Rondon has refused to rule out a return to La Liga and insisted he has no intention of retiring from international football.

The 32-year-old joined the Blues on transfer deadline day last summer. The forward put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Goodison Park after two years in the Chinese Super League.

This move saw the Venezuelan link up with Rafa Benitez for the third time in his playing career. Rondon had previously worked under the Spaniard at Newcastle United and Dalian Professional.

The forward has found first-team opportunities hard to come by since Frank Lampard replaced Benitez at the end of January. However, he did score twice in the recent 2-0 FA Cup win over Boreham Wood.

Ahead of his move to Everton, Rondon was a transfer target for former side Malaga, and the forward has refused to rule out a return to Spain in the future.

“I have always said it. I do not rule out returning to La Liga, it is football that opened doors for me,” he told Spanish publication Marca.

“Appreciating everything they have done for me because it would be giving it back with good football, being a competitive player and wanting to continue growing and learning.

“I have a lot to give and hopefully in the future La Liga and I will cross paths again, although now I owe it to Everton.”

Rondon is currently away on international duty with Venezuela. He is his country’s all-time top scorer with 34 goals.

Venezuela are unable to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, and, as a result, Rondon is keen to represent his country in the next World Cup in four years time.

He said: “I feel hungry and want to continue competing, to play everything. I feel that I continue to do things well and that is what has always been instilled in me since I was little.

“And I’m hungry for anything. As long as I’m hungry I’m going to continue competing. I still don’t see myself at that time. Injuries have respected me well. I always want to play as many games as possible with the national team.

“If I can get to a hundred I would be more than blessed. But I feel good and calm with what my career has been. I hope to continue being there and add minutes and goals.”
