Salomon Rondon, Rafa Benitez and how Newcastle United fans reacted to Everton reunion

Former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon has returned to the Premier League and reunited with Rafa Benitez after agreeing to join Everton.

The Venezuelan international completed a free transfer from to Goodison Park on deadline day following a two-year spell in China with Dalian Professional.

The 31-year-old has signed a two-year contract on Merseyside, with the Toffees holding an option for a further year.

Speaking to the club's website, Rondon said: “I'm really glad to be back in the Premier League. It’s a competition I enjoyed playing in and where I felt the fans’ support in every game.

“Defending the colours of a club with a history as rich as Everton’s fills me with pride. I can’t wait to pull on the shirt and be reunited with Rafa Benítez, a coach who has changed the way I understand the game.

"I’m really grateful for the faith he’s shown in me.”

Rondon enjoyed a productive loan spell at St James' Park in the 2018/19 season, and has previously spoken of his desire for a return to Tyneside.

However, a return for the fans' favourite failed to materialise and Everton's announcement late on Tuesday night compounded the frustration for many Newcastle fans.

Steve Bruce had spoken of adding one or two loan signings to bolster his squad, but Joe Willock proved to be the only senior addition in the summer window.

This is how Newcastle United fans reacted to Everton's announcement of the signing of Rondon:

'Biggest cheers'

'Called it'

'Cracking signing'

Hat trick

'Should have been in for him'

'Stings as well'

'This just hurts'
