Salomon Rondon posts brilliant message to Newcastle legend Alan Shearer after Hall of Fame induction

Former Newcastle United forward Salomon Rondon has paid tribute to Magpies legend Alan Shearer after he was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

Shearer, alongside Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, have become the first inductees into the newly announced Hall of Fame with six more players set to join them this year.

Big Al is, of course, the Premier League's record goalscorer with 260 goals and also holds the record of Newcastle United's record goalscorer with 206 goals.

Shearer famously wore the famous number nine shirt for the Magpies and, perhaps unfairly, every number nine at the club that has gone since has been compared to the former England captain.

Rondon may have only spent one season on loan at Newcastle from West Brom but he wore the number nine shirt with aplomb, scoring 12 goals in 33 appearances.

The Venezuelan international's loan move was not turned permanent and he joined former Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez at Dalian Pro in China.

He remains popular among Newcastle fans, though, and has consistently spoken about how he would love to return to St James' Park before the end of his career.

And the 31-year-old went up even further in their estimations this afternoon when he sent a classy message to Shearer after Monday morning's Hall of Fame announcement.

"I'll always be proud to have worn @alanshearer 's shirt for a season," Rondon tweeted.

"Congratulations on your place in the @premierleague Hall of Fame!
