Salomon Rondon lauds Rafa Benitez and makes Dominic Calvert-Lewin claim after Everton transfer

Salomon Rondon has spoken of his excitement to link up with Rafa Benitez once more at Everton.

The striker confirmed his transfer to the Blues on deadline day earlier this week, putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with the option of a third - moving for free from Dalian Professional.

This will be the third time that the 31-year-old has linked up with the Spaniard in charge at Goodison Park, as the pair worked together at both the Chinese Super League side and Newcastle United.

And the Venezuela international has spoke about how Benitez changed his mindset as a striker and why he is so happy to link up with the boss once more.

Rondon told evertontv : "I enjoy it a lot because he is the manager who changed my mentality and how I see the game, what he needs from me to help the team and my teammates.

"We were in Newcastle together and he explained very clearly the main points for a striker. In China, it was the same.

"Now it is the same, because I saw the three games Everton played and I identify myself with the idea of how Rafa plays.

"For me, it is an honour as well, that a manager like Rafa Benitez has the confidence in me. That means a lot and I am really happy.

"The finishing and movement, that is important. Sometimes, I saw for myself just to score goals, I am a striker and I want to score goals and give an assist.

"But the most important thing is movement to help the team, to create space for another one, or for me, if a defender is near.

"He changed the vision I have of football because the team is the most important thing for a club and the players.

"His management of the team is special because sometimes, in some games, you have to do extra work or work really, really hard to get the points.

"He showed to the players that you go to the limits. The possibility to win the game is always there and you have to work really for that."

Rondon will provide back-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin after confirming his move to Goodison Park.

The 24-year-old has been in excellent form to begin the campaign, scoring three goals in as many Premier League matches to get up and running.

Rather than seeing his new teammate as competition for a place in the side, however, the 31-year-old wants to focus on creating opportunities for all around him - including Calvert-Lewin.

"Yes I saw the games he played in the past year, he is an amazing striker," Rondon added.

"He scored three goals in three games, I am coming to help the team and help him have possibilities [to score].

"For me, the most important thing is to work really hard. I come here to work really hard. If I have the chance to play I will play, if not I will support my teammates. That is the most important thing.

"I played for West Brom and Newcastle, in my opinion, I played much better at Newcastle, I scored 12 goals and got seven assists.

"The most important thing is to support my teammates, fight with defenders, when the ball comes play simple and go into the box.

"For me, it is obvious, I am a striker and want to score goals. That is the most important thing for a striker - but support my teammates and support the game.

"When they need me I will be there, and this is my job."

Teamwork is central to the way Rondon looks at the game.

The striker is aware of how much Everton fans love their centre-forwards, but he wants to have more to his game than just putting the ball in the back of the net.

He added: "Somebody said about the centre-forwards and Evertonians love their No.9s.

"People want their strikers to score goals but football is more than that. You have to properly read the game.

"Sometimes the number 9 has to score as many goals as possible. If not, try to help your teammates and , most important, win the three points because that helps us go forward and up the table."
