Salman Khan’s Upcoming Film Renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace

The change in title was confirmed by the film’s director, Apoorva Lakhia, who explained that the decision was not made suddenly. According to him, both titles—Battle of Galwan and Maatrubhumi—had been registered from the very beginning of the film’s production.

Speaking about the shift, Lakhia said that while many fans might see the move as unexpected, the creative team had been considering the change throughout the filmmaking process. As the story evolved, the filmmakers realized that the narrative went far beyond the depiction of a single battle.

A Story Beyond War

Lakhia explained that the film focuses not just on military conflict but on the emotional and human aspects behind it. He emphasized that the core of the story revolves around humanity, empathy, and the silent sacrifices made by soldiers.

By renaming the film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace, the creators aim to highlight these deeper themes. The title reflects the spirit of the narrative—one that honors the sacrifices of soldiers while emphasizing the hope for peace even in times of conflict.

Film Inspired by the 2020 Galwan Conflict

The movie, which also stars Chitrangda Singh, draws inspiration from the 2020 China–India Galwan Valley clash between India and China.

Earlier this month, the project had already attracted controversy after the teaser release. State-backed media outlets in China reportedly criticized the film, claiming it distorted facts and encouraged anti-China sentiment.

Title Inspired by the Film’s Song

Lakhia also revealed that the film features a song titled “Maatrubhumi,” which resonated strongly with audiences. The response to the song further reinforced the team’s belief that the new title better captures the film’s message and emotional core.

According to the director, the revised title reflects the soul of the story—one that seeks to preserve humanity even in the face of war.
