Legendary screenwriter Salim Khan left fans worried after he was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on February 17. The 90-year-old was rushed to medical aid following complaints of swelling on Tuesday. At present, he is in the ICU and on the path to recovery. Among his family members, Salim’s son and Bollywood star Salman Khan visited his father. Amid the health scare, a past revelation by the Sholay writer, where he spoke about fearing his own father and his bond with Salman, has once again emerged on social media.
Salim, in a conversation with Magic Moments last year, shared how Salman once compared the veteran screenwriter with his father, Abdul Rashid Khan. To this, Salim responded that he did not wish the Sikander star to adopt any of his “habits”. Recalling the strained relationship with his father, he shared that even the sound of the leather boots on the floor of his father would struck fear in his heart. Hence, Salim wanted his children to perceive him as their friend and not fear him.
Salim Khan's bond with Salman
Further in the interaction, Salim opened up about how there were rough patches in his equation with Salman. Do you know there were times when the film icon refused to speak to his son for long periods of time? Elaborating on the topic, Salim disclosed that whenever Salman made choices he did not agree to, the screenwriter would maintain distance from his son for as long as six months.
To steer clear of any kind of confrontation and avoid facing the wrath of his angry father, Salman would sometimes sneak out of the house. However, the 60-year-old would come back later to admit his mistake and apologise to Salim.
Salim's personal life and health update
Salim got married to his first wife, Salma Khan, in 1964. The couple shares four children (Salman, Arbaaz, Sohail and Alvira Khan). They later adopted Arpita Khan. The screenwriter met Helen some years later while working together in films and tied the knot in 1981.
Coming to Salim’s health update, he suffered a minimal brain hemorrhage, as informed by his doctor, Jalil Parker, reported IANS. The doctor, in his statement, reassured that Salim’s condition does not require surgery. As of now, he is in a stable condition but continues to be monitored by a team of specialists.
Meanwhile, Salman, who is currently prepping for his upcoming film Battle of Galwan, left his shoot in Madh Island to meet his father. His last on-screen appearance was in Sikander, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna. The action thriller, directed by AR Murugadoss, failed to impress fans and tanked at the box office. The movie premiered in the silver screens on March, 2025.
