According to Network Rail, the 5.08pm Portsmouth Harbour to Bristol Temple Meads train hit an object on its approach to Salisbury station and the rear carriage derailed at around 7pm.

British Transport Police said: "92 passengers were on both train services. Around 30 people attended a casualty centre which was set up in a nearby church.

"Thirteen people were taken to hospital by ambulance where they received treatment for minor injuries. One remains there."
