Salil Ankola may exit committee as BCCI floats advertisement for national selector post

INDORE: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday floated an advertisement for the post of national selector of the men's team on its website. This means that one of the five national selectors will have to quit the committee.

There is speculation that the selector on his way out could be former India fast bowler Salil Ankola, since the chief selector, ex-India pacer Ajit Agarkar, too belongs to Mumbai and West Zone. The BCCI normally appoints the five selectors from each of the five zones.

Apart from Ankola and Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee and S Sharath are part of the committee. Agarkar was appointed as the chairman of the selection committee on July 4 last year.

Ankola was appointed as the national selector on January 7, 2023. Before that, from December 2020, he had been the Mumbai chief selector.

As per the ad, a selector should have played a minimum of seven Tests, or 30 first-class matches, or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches. He should have retired from the game at least five years previously. No person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee for a total of five years shall be eligible to be a member of the men's Selection Committee.

The deadline to apply for the post is 6 pm on January 25.
