Salih Ozcan Rangers transfer latest as he and Rafael Santos Barre's contract situations change

Rangers are set to be dealt a transfer blow with two of their reported targets set to sign new deals.

Steven Gerrard is looking to strengthen his Scottish Premiership winning squad ahead of their title defence and crack at the Champions League.

A move for out of contract 1.FC Koln midfielder and Germany Under 21 captain Salih Ozcan was understood to be a possibility with the 23-year-old out of contract and heading for the exit door.

However, a change of manager at Koln has reignited the possibility of Ozcan signing a new deal, with discussions underway about him potentially extending his stay at the Bundesliga outfit.

New boss Stefan Baumgart isn't giving up and wants to try and keep the player if at all possible.

Koln sporting director Jorg Jakobs said: "Talks are ongoing.

"Both sides can well imagine (a contract extension). Now we have to see if we can reach an agreement."

And a South American target is set to do the same despite his contract already running out.

Rafael Santos Barre is an internationa;l teammate of Alfredo Morelos and looked set for a move to Europe after his River Plate deal ran out.

But he’s now set to resign with the Buenos Aires club after they offered to double his salary, according to the country’s Blu Radio.

It’s thought his new deal includes a release clause but it’s likely that the figures involved would put him out of Rangers ’ price range.
