Salih Ozcan Rangers transfer blow as target performs Koln contract u-turn

Ranger transfer target Salih Ozcan has agreed a new contract with 1.FC Koln.

The Germany Under 21 international had looked set to leave the Bundesliga outfit with the Ibrox club interested in bringing him to the Scottish Premiership.

However, the 23-year-old’s situation changed when Koln appointed Stefan Baumgart as manager, who resolved to keep the midfielder with the club.

Contract talks were reopened and now Ozcan has agreed to extend his stay after agreeing a contract extension in principle according to Kicker.

It’s understood Baumgart’s influence was key in persuading the player to stick with his hometown club despite interest from elsewhere.

Rangers have now seen two potential targets opt to re-sign with their current clubs after Colombian Rafael Santos Borre left River Plate under freedom of contract, only to go back and double his money with the Argentinian giants.

Fashion Sakala and Nnamdi Ofoborh remain Steven Gerrard ’s only additions so far, but the champions are sure to add more new faces as they gear up for a crack at the Champions League group stages.
