Salford stabbing death: Forensic investigators shut Eccles road as two men arrested on suspicion of murder

Forensic officers are carrying out investigation work at the scene of a fatal stabbing in Eccles.

Police have been on Liverpool Road since around 11am yesterday morning (April 12) following reports of a disturbance.

A 41-year-old man was found stabbed inside a property and was pronounced dead at the scene, GMP said.

Two men, both aged 34, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody for questioning.

This morning (Tuesday), Liverpool Road - the main route through Eccles on the A57 - remains cordoned off by police.

A section of the road near the Premier newsagent is taped off.

Crime scene investigators are carrying out work at the scene, with the main focus appearing to be on a house next door to the shop.

Yesterday, residents spoke of their shock at what had happened.

One business owner said: "We were closed, and when I came in the police were already there. We just heard that somebody had been murdered.

"We've not had anything like this before. We've worked in other difficult areas but here it is so quiet usually."

Another shop owner told the M.E.N that trade had been badly hit due to the police cordon, on what should have been a busy day for businesses in the area with Covid restrictions being eased.

"It's the 12th today and we expected it to be busy," he said.

"Hopefully all this will be over tomorrow and everything will be back tomorrow."

Greater Manchester Police say the incident is believed to be isolated and there is no immediate threat to the wider community.

Anyone with information is urged to contact GMP by calling 0161 856 3400, quoting log 992 of April 12, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
